St. John the Baptist Parish Celebrates Completion of Major Coastal Protection Project near Frenier Landing

St. John the Baptist Parish President Jaclyn Hotard is proud to announce the completion of a significant coastal protection project along the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain near Frenier Landing. The $9.5 million initiative includes the installation of 1.8 miles of breakwaters designed to reduce wave energy and combat shoreline erosion.

The breakwater system extends from the existing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers structure to the St. Charles Parish line, playing a vital role in reinforcing the Parish’s vulnerable shoreline. The project was funded through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA).

“This project is an investment in the safety and well-being of our residents,” said Parish President Jaclyn Hotard. “By addressing shoreline erosion, we’re protecting property, reducing future storm impacts, and preserving the quality of life. It’s about strengthening our Parish for today and tomorrow.”
