President Hotard Hosts Groundbreaking for Lake Pontchartrain Shoreline Protection Project

Parish President Jaclyn Hotard, Planning & Zoning Director Tara Lambeth and staff, and Council kicked off the Lake Pontchartrain Shoreline Protection Project at Frenier with a groundbreaking. Members of the Manchac Greenway were also in attendance.

Funded by a GOMESA bond, the $10 million project includes the construction of a new breakwater system to help prevent shoreline erosion and increase protection from storm surge events and coastal flooding along Lake Pontchartrain.

The estimated completion date is late September 2024. “I’d like to thank Director Lambeth and the Planning & Zoning Department for all of their efforts,” said Parish President Hotard. “This project not only combats erosion and fights against rising sea levels, but will improve the resilience of our coastal community for many generations to come.”
